**Review**

Precalculus Mathematics for Calculus Stewart 6th Edition is an identity of mind-numbing textbooks precalculus and calculus, this book is the same. The coverage starts with real numbers, exponents, expressions and solving equations. The basic principles of functions, polynomial functions, exponential functions, logarithmic and trigonometric functions, solving systems of equations, sequences, series, counting and probability, analytic geometry and limits follow this. Personally, I can do without the chapter on limits, when I teach precalculus, I am hard pressed to cover the material. There are a lot of time to cover the limits of calculation and provides a better context. There are a number of exercises at the end of each section and solutions to the odd numbers are included in the appendix. As seems to be the case with many books, some of the exercises could be left out without loss of quality. Sometimes I suspect that is the mathematical equivalent of an “arms race” to see how many tasks can be included at the end of a chapter.

The previous paragraph could be used to describe nearly every precalculus text on the planet, so it fits into the category of obvious, but necessary. Therefore, the key point is what makes this book different from the competition. The answer is not much. The approach is the model for the new material followed by a series of practical examples, which is also the fundamental strategy used in all mathematics textbooks at a lower level. Short biographical asides of some of the most important historical figures in mathematics are interrupted regularly. I like it, but I wonder how many times the students to read. What is the difference of this book is that the quality of writing is better than most. In an industry where there is little difference in the texts, which is enough to make me rank this book in the first two precalculus books that are available.
